What’s going on outside your window doesn’t particularly matter so long as you have an indoor space you can call your own. You could be in America or Germany or Japan. You can accomplish anything if you have your own space. But you still need a window. When you’re painting at night it feels like you’re inside a space ship working all alone. If you look at your studio from the outside, light spills into the darkness, and your space ship is the only thing floating through space. That’s where I do my painting.

基本、どこにいても「部屋の中」が自分のスペースなんで、窓の外の
景色はどこでもいい。アメリカでもドイツでも日本でも。
窓の中に自分のスペースがあれば、なんでもできる。
だから、窓は、なきゃいけないんです。で、その中で、夜、絵を描いてると、
自分が宇宙船の中にいて、そこでひとり絵を描いてるような気分になる。
外から見ると窓から光が漏られてて、自分の宇宙船だけが浮いてる。
その中で絵を描いてる。
